Charles Hartman

Engineering brought Chuck, his wife Angela and their son Ariel to Greenville in the Summer of 1989 and they began attending Fellowship Bible Church their first Sunday in town. Chuck was ordained as an elder at FBC in August 1992 and resigned from engineering to pastor full-time in January 1996. Chuck has a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, a Master of Divinity degree from Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Economics from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. Along the way Chuck and Angela had two more children, Jennifer and Abigail, have been blessed with the godly marriages of their two oldest to Deborah (Ariel) and Timothy (Jennifer), and now are the grandparents of Anna, James, Isabella, Filigree, Wolfgang, and Bär.

Chuck inherited a passion for reading from his father, and like him particularly enjoys historical narratives and biographies. Chuck is also challenged by the theological philosophy of such men as D. A. Carson, Benjamin Warfield, Robert Louis Dabney, Michael Polanyi, and Nicholas Woltersdorff.

Over the years of study and ministry, Chuck has become increasingly convinced that the Church of the past several generations has lost sight of the true ‘Great Commission’ – to be Salt and Light in the world. Chuck’s Reformed faith in the sovereignty of God persuades him that every aspect of a believer’s life should be brought under the dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ, obedience to His commands, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, the Bible. In this way the community of believers is established as a cultural expression of the invisible, yet real and powerful, Kingdom of God on earth.
